In November 2006, University of Virginia basketball player Mamadi Diane scored the first points in the brand-new John Paul Jones Arena, hitting a three-point jumper that would send the Cavaliers on their way to beating the No. 10 team in the country, the University of Arizona. UVA Ph.D. Graduate, 60, Among Longest-Living Survivors of Cystic Fibrosis
Luanne McKinnon, who earned her Ph.D. in art history from the University of Virginia in May, is a renowned art scholar and curator, poised to turn her dissertation on Picasso into a book. At 60, she is also one of the longest-living survivors of cystic fibrosis, a genetic pulmonary condition with a current average life span of 37 years.

I am a writer and editor with more than seven years of experience writing for daily and monthly news publications. Currently, I am the associate editor for UVA Today, the daily news publication of the University of Virginia.

My writing has taken me across the country and even across the pond to London. I have covered topics including the arts, architecture, business, engineering and politics, and events ranging from tragedies to political rallies to NCAA national championships.

Prior to joining UVA, I worked with startup education consulting firm Expartus LLC, international architecture and design firm Gresham, Smith and Partners, startup digital marketing agency OttoPilot Media and as a student intern in the U.S. Senate.

I am a native of Birmingham, AL and a 2012 graduate of the University of Virginia. I love reading - especially 18th century British literature and historical fiction - London is my favorite city in the world, and I am a huge college football fan.
